Title: The Gift, The Water, and the Work – A Well Encounter that Transforms
Scripture Focus: John 4:10–34
Scripture Focus: John 4:10–34

“If you knew the gift of God…” — John 4:10
Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well is more than a story—it's a personal invitation to receive the eternal and soul-satisfying gift of Living Water. In a culture that draws women into endless cycles of striving, comparison, and worldly thirst, Jesus offers us something radically different: Himself.
1. What Is the Gift of God?
John 4:10 reveals a profound truth: “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink…”
The gift Jesus speaks of is life—not just physical life, but eternal life through the Holy Spirit. It’s a spiritual rebirth that quenches our soul’s thirst. Jesus offers Living Water—the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who becomes a wellspring of truth and comfort flowing from within.
2. We All Thirst
Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again…” (John 4:13)
This world offers temporary relief for a permanent need. We are spiritual beings, and worldly things will never satisfy the soul. Just as the body requires physical water, our soul needs Living Water.
3. Worship That Satisfies
John 4:23–24 reminds us that “true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”
True worship isn’t about a location or performance—it’s about heart posture. We can be physically present in church but spiritually distant.
True worship flows from:
4. The Holy Spirit in Worship
The Holy Spirit is essential for true worship. According to John 16:13, “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.” The Spirit aligns our hearts, reveals truth, and empowers us to worship with authenticity and surrender.
5. What is God' Will for us?
In John 4:34, Jesus says, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.”
We often prioritize earthly work, but Jesus models a life nourished by obedience to God’s will. His will gives our lives true meaning.
God’s will is:
6. Sowing, Reaping, and Eternal Purpose
John 4:35–38 speaks of harvest: “The fields are ripe for harvest…”
In the Kingdom, some sow and others reap, but both rejoice in the work. Whether you're planting seeds of truth or witnessing lives transformed, you are part of something eternal.
Empowered Reflections:
Reflect: Am I drawing from wells that leave me empty, or am I drinking deeply from Christ?
Respond: How is the Holy Spirit leading me to worship in truth today?
Realign: What does it look like for me to do the will of God daily?
Empowered Action Steps:

“The gift of God is Life—life in the Spirit.”
“When we feed our souls with the Word, our thirst is quenched in Christ.”
3. Worship That Satisfies
John 4:23–24 reminds us that “true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”
True worship isn’t about a location or performance—it’s about heart posture. We can be physically present in church but spiritually distant.
True worship flows from:
- A soul aligned with God’s truth.
- A heart dependent on the Holy Spirit.
- A life surrendered in obedience and gratitude.
“Worship from the spirit requires our thoughts and emotions to be fixed on Jesus.”
4. The Holy Spirit in Worship
The Holy Spirit is essential for true worship. According to John 16:13, “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.” The Spirit aligns our hearts, reveals truth, and empowers us to worship with authenticity and surrender.
“Without the Holy Spirit, our worship is powerless.”
5. What is God' Will for us?
In John 4:34, Jesus says, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.”
We often prioritize earthly work, but Jesus models a life nourished by obedience to God’s will. His will gives our lives true meaning.
God’s will is:
- To know Him and walk daily in His Word.
- To love Him and worship in spirit and truth.
- To serve others with a grateful, surrendered heart.
“One sows and another reaps… We have reaped the benefits of Christ’s work.”
- Spend time in the Word daily—it is your Living Water.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your worship this week.
- Take one step in obedience to God’s will—whether that’s in your home, work, church, or community.
- Journal: Where have I been striving for satisfaction outside of Christ?
