Join us for our first series "Breaking Pride"
Understanding the Nature of Pride
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." – Proverbs 16:18
Pride is a subtle enemy. It runs deep and hides in plain sight, disguised as confidence, ambition, or independence. At its core, however, pride shifts our focus away from God and places it on ourselves. It whispers that we are self-sufficient, that our way is better, and deserve recognition.
Proverbs 16:18 offers a sobering warning: pride leads to destruction. Why? Because it blinds us to our need for God. It distorts our relationships with others, fostering comparison, judgment, and conflict. Most importantly, pride creates a barrier between us and God, making it difficult for us to surrender to His will fully.
Recognizing pride is the first step to breaking its hold. When we examine our hearts and allow God to reveal the areas where pride has taken root, we open the door to transformation. Self-awareness and humility will enable us to realign with God’s purposes, leading to a life marked by peace, joy, and grace.
Today, let’s take a moment to reflect: where has pride been hiding in your life? Is it in your thoughts, your words, or your actions?
Reflection Questions:
Prayer:
Lord, I come before You, acknowledging that pride has taken root in my heart in ways I may not fully see. Reveal the areas where I have relied on myself instead of You. Teach me to walk in humility, to trust You completely, and to serve others selflessly. Transform my heart so I can reflect Your love and grace. Amen.
Action Step:
This week, ask God to reveal one specific area where pride has influenced your actions or decisions. Write it down and commit to practicing humility in that area, whether by seeking forgiveness, serving someone selflessly, or surrendering control to God.
