This morning, something shifted.

I haven’t been woken up early to be in the Word in a while. But today, God stirred my heart and brought me straight to John 6:41–59—a passage I’ve read before, but this time, it hit differently. This time, it answered a question I could not find on my own.

It’s a question I believe many of us wrestle with, especially in seasons of busyness, motherhood, careers, marriage, ministry, leadership, or even personal growth:

Why do we often feel so unsatisfied?

Why does it seem like we’re always looking for the next big thing?

We give our best to something, pour ourselves out, invest deeply—and then shift. We try a new direction, a new idea, a new opportunity… and still, something feels like it’s missing.

Then I read John 6:53: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.”

And suddenly, it was clear:

This is why the search never ends. We are often trying to find identity and meaning in places that were never meant to define us:

—Our roles in ministry or work

—Friendships and spiritual community

—Mentors or leadership influence

—Our gifts, calling, or creative projects

—Our careers, goals, and even in purpose

—Even in the roles we hold as a spouse, parent, or leader

None of those things can feed the soul.

They may inspire us, encourage us, and stretch us—but they can’t satisfy the deepest hunger within.

Jesus didn’t say, “Try harder, do more, serve better.”

He said, “I am the Bread of Life.” John 6:48

The Hummingbird Effect

The image that came to mind was a hummingbird—always in motion, never resting. It flutters from flower to flower, constantly searching, constantly needing, taking just enough to keep going but never fully satisfied.

That’s how many of us live—always reaching, constantly pivoting, always processing the next thing. It’s not that we’re doing anything wrong. In fact, a lot of what we pursue is good. But if we’re honest, we still feel spiritually malnourished.

And here’s the truth that washed over me:

We don’t truly know who we are until we know who we are in Christ.

When you find Christ, you find yourself.

When you know Christ, you’ll know yourself.

Becoming one with Him—deeply, personally, intimately—is the identity we’re all searching for.

The Invitation to Unplug. Sometimes what keeps us from intimacy with Jesus isn’t rebellion—it’s just too much noise.

Too many opinions.

Too many messages.

Too many conversations.

Too many expectations.

Even the good things—like friendships, group chats, leadership circles, or content we consume—can slowly crowd out our stillness.

You may not be chasing approval, but it becomes hard to hear Him clearly if you’re constantly surrounded by mental and emotional noise. Your soul needs space—space to breathe, rest, and be filled.

Maybe what your heart is craving is a sacred pause.

A season to pull back—not from God, but from everything that’s been taking up the space meant for Him.

Jesus is inviting us not just to believe in Him—but to feast on Him.

To make space to sit with Him.

To read not to study, but to listen.

To return to John and Hebrews, not for answers, but for Him.

He Alone Satisfies

Here’s what I know to be true—for you, for me, for any of us:

Your identity is in Christ.

Your life is in Christ.

Your purpose flows from Christ.

Your rest, peace, and confidence are found only in Christ.

You don’t have to keep chasing something new.

You don’t have to keep searching for what’s next.

Come.

Eat.

Rest.

Let Him fill you.

And when you do—when you finally feast on Him and become one with Him—you’ll realize that what you’ve been searching for all along isn’t a thing.

It’s a Person.

And in Christ…

You’ll finally find you.

John 6:45-59 NIV inspired this morning's reflections.
